Der duftet ganz anders als alle grossen Bordeaux, hat seinen ganz eingenen unvergleichlichen Stil gefunden, in die überschwengliche Frucht mischt sich eine gehörige Portion Würze in Verbindung mit einer Kräuteraromatik, wie sie in dieser Intesität nur Pontet-Canet kennt. Alleine dieser Duft war die Reise nach Bordeaux wert. Auch am Gaumen betont er zwar die Frucht, aber die begleitenden Aromen nehmen zumindest ebenso viel Platz im fazinierenden Geschmacksbild ein, alles wird getragen von Massen von seidenen Tanninen, die traumhafte Frische des Jahrgang verleiht dem Wein zusätzliche Spannung. Ich überlege mir gerade an was mich das erinnert, da bringt mich mein Freund Heiner drauf - Coutet - "unser" phänomenales Bio Weingut in St. Emilion, da haben wir ähnliche Geschnacksnuancen erlebt, es muss also etwas mit Bio zu tun haben. Das ist denn in der Tat auch ein atemberaubend schönes Stück Natur, von eindrücklicher Präzision und Klarheit. Dieser Wein wird zweifellos auch schon recht jung höchstes Trinkvergnügen bieten, aber er besitzt auch ein schier unendliches Alterungspotenzial. Welches ist der beste unter den vielen Pontet-Canet Legenden, die in den letzten Jahren entstanden sind? Die Zeit wird es zeigen und glücklich ist, wer von jeder ein paar Flaschen im Keller hat.

The 2016 Pontet-Canet is absolutely breathtaking. Powerful, ample and racy in the glass, the 2016 is one of the most exquisitely well-balanced young Pontet-Canets I can remember tasting. Savory, high-toned aromatics and brisk mineral notes lend energy and delineation as this vivid wonderfully alive wine opens up in the glass. The flavors are dark and incisive, but it is the wine's total sense of harmony that is most compelling. All of the elements are simply in the right place. The 2016 is tremendous. It's as simple as that. As is often the case, Pontet-Canet is one of the most singular wines in Bordeaux. Alfred Tesseron could have chosen to play things safe when he took over the management of the estate in the mid-1990s. Instead, he chose a very different path. No proprietor in Bordeaux has taken more risks over the last two decades than Alfred Tesseron. A commitment to biodynamic farming, sustainability across the entire estate more broadly, and the adoption of new concepts for Bordeaux, such as aging a portion of the wine in terra cotta, set Pontet-Canet apart from other properties in Pauillac and the Left Bank. Not surprisingly, the wine is also starkly different from the wines of neighboring estates.

Die aromatische Komplexität ist ganz einfach verblüffend, betörend, unübertroffen, die Dichte folgt nach, die Tiefe vor allem, das Tonische, Lebendige, die grosse Länge, die absolute Nähe zur Traube. Noch einmal einen Schritt weiter in Richtung des absoluten Weins, der besondere Emotionen vermittelt.

Very deep purple-black in color, the 2018 Pontet-Canet rocks up with fantastically expressive plum preserves, baked blueberries and crème de cassis notes with touches of Chinese five spice, potpourri, licorice and chocolate mint plus a hint of smoked meats. Full-bodied, rich, super-concentrated and decadent, it has a firm frame of wonderfully velvety tannins with bold freshness to back up the fruit, finishing very long and very spicy.
